MARTA CRESPÍ

La importància de la paraula (2021)

In this work, literacy is understood as a fundamental tool in education, which makes it possible to understand the world and to develop the need to express one's own thoughts.

My granfather did not learn to read or write. However, when he did his military service, and after being teased for being illiterate, one of the soldiers taught him and his companions some letters and words. From then on - he told me - "the street signs began to have a different meaning".

The words present in the pieces are taken from the embossed posters found in the street, and copied using alginate moulds, making it a process of searching forthe word through my observation ofthe world.

Plasteris present in the work as a material thatrefers to my grandfather and his life's work. The work is complemented by his voice speaking, giving weight to the word.
